What are the biggest lessons that I have learned from anxiety?
First, let’s talk briefly about anxiety disorders. What are they? In a very basic description they can be summed up as disorders that occurred due to a diminished ability to cope with stress; they are the result of cumulative long-term stress. It is a physiological, psychological, and behavioural reaction.
So the biggest lessons that I have learned are all rolled into relaxing and living a balanced life:
- Live in the moment. I have found that when I am in the moment I can increase my appreciation and relaxation for the moment that I am in. Being in the moment helps to control worry and what-ifs.
- Feeling and emotions are okay and it is okay to express them. Furthermore, there are other emotions besides anger.
- Thoughts and self-talk are powerful. Negative self-talk can damage quality of life because the negative self-talk limits a person and it steals peace of mind and emotional well-being. It was stopping me from living my life.
- I can grow and overcome. Anxiety doesn’t have to control my life.
