Have we sipped Van Houtte Dulce De Leche together before with its sweet smell of caramelized sugar? It has a bitter coffee taste with the floral undertones of vanilla.
If we were having coffee, I would share with you that we finally got some rain and the smell of smoke has quieted. We still a lot more rain, but I’m thankful that we got what we did so far.
If we were having coffee, I would share with you that I picked up my first Brandon Sanderson novel. I keep teasing my boys and telling them that I’m reading a little book. However, The Way of Kings is not a little book. It’s well over 1200 pages. I’m not sure how many pages I will get to devour before my next review read is delivered to me, but I’m hoping for a few hundred pages before I must set it aside. What are you reading?
If we were having coffee, I would shrug and explain that I don’t have a lot to report this week. I’m hoping that the smoke and weather will be cooperative for some outside activities this weekend, but I have no set plans. I’m just going to roll with it . . .

Weekend Coffee Share is hosted by Natalie the Explorer. I hope you have a chance to join us for a virtual cup. Coffee share #21 in 2023.
I’m almost done with Adam Grant’s “Think Again.” Next up is a second read of “The Creative Act: A Way of Being” by Rick Rubin. I’m going to be using the latter in my Critical Inquiry course in the fall. A very inspiring book. It is note taking time.
Once that’s over, I will start on my TBR pile of fiction. Not sure what it will be, but my plan is to start on June 1st and read as much as I can over the summer.

I had to look up both of those titles. They both sound interesting. Although I wasn’t sure what to think of the plain grey cover with a circle and dot image.
I’m excited for summer reading too. I have another big novel—over one-thousand pages—sitting there. I’m planning for it to be my August read.
Thanks for stopping in, Stu. Popping over to your blog to see if you have any new posts.

I’m reading Thistlefoot: a Novel by GennaRose Nethercott. It’ a story that follows 2 of Baba Yaga’s descendants and her house on chicken legs (Thistlefoot). I’m only 1/3 through the book, but it’s really good so far. Since I’m a storyteller, these folktale based fantasies interest me.

“Thistlefoot” sounds intriguing. I googled it and it looks intriguing to with its black, red, and tan shadow cover, not to mention a house with chicken legs! What? Thanks for sharing. My TBR list continues to grow.

Glad that the smoke smell has gone down. Wow, a 1200 page book. I hope you get to read at peace. From weekend coffee share. Ganga.

Well, I only made it to about two-hundred pages and I’ve set it aside because a book came in for me to review. So, a slight pause and then back to it . . .
Thanks for stopping in. Happy Saturday.

Good luck with your 1,200-page book. Yikes. It would have to be excellent to keep my attention. Long ones usually are, though. have fun. 🙂

I admit the size is daunting. It’s fantasy, so I find the magic keeps me entertained. Thanks for stopping in, Marsha. Hope you have a great weekend.

I always appreciate the occasional quiet weekend as it allows more time for reading. This weekend I’m reading. The Bookbinder of Jericho.

Glad to hear the smoke has diminished. I hope it stays that way. Sometimes the weeks where there isn’t much excitement are the best.

Yes, the smoke is gone for now. We had rain and that seems to have helped. There are still fires but they aren’t classed as out of control right now. I do agree that every once in a while non-excitement weekend is needed. Thanks for stopping in, Michelle.

Glad the smoke subsided a bit. I hope there is more rain in your future! Funny how what might sound like a curse is in the case the opposite 🙂

I’ve been reading The Lord of the Rings. I’m obsessed with the movies, but never really got into the books. I’m slowly working my way through in between book club books, but I’m really enjoying it!

I loved reading Lord of the Rings and I love the movies. However, the first time I tried reading The Hobbit—it was for a school book report—I couldn’t get through it. I just wasn’t ready. So, years later I read Lord of the Rings and then went back and tried The Hobbit again and wow did I enjoy it.
Thanks for stopping in, Jayden.

Hi Shari – great to hear that you got some rain but far better is that the fire and smoke threat is reduced. We’ve been through so much here that everyone, either directly, or via friends or family have been impacted.
It leave huge messes that only start with the ashes of once was your home but stays with you through the years that follow to rebuild a home or fully different life by moving away, insurance wars and paperwork galore.
Stay safely where what coffee we should share remains the biggest question we deal with.
Blessings.

Hi Gary. Yes, I agree that the far-lasting effects are . . . I can’t even come up with a word that encompasses it, but I think we all know. We have overcast skies today and it’s sprinkling a bit of rain.
Thanks for stopping in. I hope your week is going okay.

We’ve had a lot of rain this spring that has threated every outdoor event recently, though the grass is green & the garden is growing good.

There doesn’t seem to be a weather middle point right now. It’s one extreme or the other. I heard that while Alberta was burning B.C. was getting so much rain that areas were flooding. Anyway, thanks for stopping in Karen. Hope you are having a lovely week.

We’ve had a bit of smoke and hazy skies here in New England this past weekend and were told it was from the wildfires in Canada being picked up by the various wind currents. Glad the rain helped tamp some of that down!

It amazes me how far smoke travels. Normally I would be happy to share, but in this particular instance I am not; that smokey air is not pleasant. Hope that the smoke didn’t last long in your area. Thanks for stopping in, Joanne.
