This year I am writing a novel.
The boys often ask me to draw with them. Drawing was something I loved to do but it isn’t something I made a lot of time for over the years. Lately when they have asked me to sit and draw with them I have used it to my writing advantage by drawing things connected to my novel. It has helped me to stay focused and to have a bit of fun with it too!
Here are a couple of the drawings:

Do you have any tricks for keeping yourself on track with your writing goals?

The only thing that works for me is to rise and start early before family and distraction join me. A big pot of strong tea that I can work through for several hours helps.
Great drawings BTW. I bet the boys love them.

I like the idea of getting up before the family to get some work done but my boys are still early risers so I would have to get up before the sun, haha. I also find that if I can sit and writer for a longer period of time it is helpful.
Thanks Gary.

You mean some folks don’t get up before the sun?
Say it ain’t so!!! It’s the best time to write, think, enjoy a quiet empowering cup of tea or coffee.

Those are some cool drawings!
I have sometimes given myself a piece of candy every time I write 1000 words, but my best motivator is social. Finding friends to war/sprint with, finding people to have a friendly battle with. It’s definitely helpful for me.

Those are some great ideas! Thank you for sharing them. I think instead of candy I could go with cupcakes, haha.

Very cool drawings! You need to post more of your artwork 🙂 No real tips, I usually just get obsessed and can do nothing but write….
