Happiness

March’s theme on Writing is Communication is things to be thankful for. What better things to be thankful for then things that make you happy and give you joy? With that in mind, today’s post is inspired by the question: Name five moments when you were ecstatically happy?

For me, five moments that made me ecstatically happy were:

  1. When my husband proposed all those years ago. We had been dating for about 4 years and living together for around 3 of those years. It was our anniversary and we had gone out for dinner and returned home. I felt fairly positive that there was a proposal coming as part of our anniversary celebration and I wasn’t wrong. He had correctly chosen to wait until we got home knowing that I am not one for public displays… Now I am not going to get into the whole story other than to say I still tease him because he placed a pillow in front of my face to hide the fact that he was kneeling down to propose, I of course said yes and here we are after 11 ½ years Secret Life FEB 24 2019of marriage!
  2. Getting accepted to go to Depot and become an RCMP. So many opportunities seemed to be opening up and this one offered some great adventures.
  3. The birth of my first son. Although my first son was born at 28 weeks and 1 day, very premature, I was immediately in love with this tiny little person (I have a post scheduled about this for my month that is themed Memoirs and Life Stories). s51422cb105788_11Every day he showed us how strong he was and how lucky we were to have him. He still does that to this day.
  4. The birth of my second son. I am truly lucky to be the mother of boys! My second son has provided laughter and challenges very different from my first son. I bought a shirt for him last year that read, “Just Being Me” and that sums him up in such a wonderful way.
  5. The first time a piece of my writing was accepted for publication. Writing has always been a hobby and becoming a published author has always been a dream/goal.

Of course, every moment I get to spend as quality time with my family makes me over the moon happy. So, those are my moments. How about you, what are five moments that make/made you ecstatically happy? You can add to the comment section below or write a post and share your link in the comment section.

  1. Oh my – just five?
I have been blessed with so much happiness that at first I wondered how I might sort them down to just 5 Then, I realized that because of my blog story collection, I certainly must have captures the most happiest moments and if I paid attention to what I wrote first, those might be my five and it was almost perfect.

    Here’s my list:
    1) https://garyawilsonstories.wordpress.com/the-inner-tube-adventure/
In this adventure, my best friend in grammar school and I pulled a really stupid stunt that made sense at the time we thought it up, but really went south when we tried it on our really steep box sliding hill. When I decided to start my collection this was the first story I wrote and still love to share because after all these years – I can still reduce myself to tears of joy in telling and laughing at this story. It was sooo vivid and out of control.

    2) https://garyawilsonstories.wordpress.com/the-eucalyptus-sprouts-adventure/
Not too long later, that same friend and I with 4 others, took to the trees and discovered an unreal game we could play with a certain type of tree sprout. Rowdy and very fun to retell. Take care in letting your boys read or even hear about this fun.

    3) https://garyawilsonstories.wordpress.com/the-prom-date-adventure/
Sigh – and then there was high school and all the weirdness that comes with it. What can be more awkward that the whole deal around THE PROM. Well, I have, what I think is one of the wildest near-miss prom stories that seems to make everyone cringe, but having talked it over with the girl (now lady) involved, it remains one of the times I was so happy and so disappointed to make one of the craziest emotional juxtapositions of all time. I can still recall how out of reach, the outcome I wanted, became and how it distressed me.

    4) https://garyawilsonstories.wordpress.com/the-kid-bomb-incident/
There is a lot of story behind this story that makes it such a joyful memory, but reduced to just the part I retell – this was SO MUCH FUN. It was a stunt that I so wanted to work – and it did. There are members of my family who recall it still – decades later and a couple of my aunts in particular still want to slug me for it but have to stop laughing first. This story makes moms cringe, laugh and rejoice that it did not happen to them.

    5) https://garyawilsonstories.wordpress.com/favorite-memory-of-a-baby-girl/
I too have a couple birth-of-a-child stories, but this simple little memory somehow is my favorite. We had boy – girl – boy. Each was a life changing delight and we can’t imagine life without any of them. But there was that one night when my daughter, from her crib captured my heart in a way we both needed. Some of my readers have labeled this story their favorite. Oddly enough – they are moms…

Now I want to curl up and reread each one. Even at less than 10 minutes each, I may need to grab dinner first. I hope you and your readers get a kick out of this list.
