What inspired Chimera and Curses?

As I completed book one in the Ember Files, I wanted to expand Kori’s world and create more characters. Kori whispered to me that her adventures weren’t over yet, and other characters were whispering their desires too. What is interesting is that Chimera and Curses created the seed for another Ember Files story. I became increasingly curious about Rye Adelgrief’s secret. Rye reveals something significant in Chimera and Curses, but it doesn’t receive a full backstory within that book.

I wanted to know more about Rye’s secret—and knew readers would too. So Chimera and Curses lead to me writing Vizard, the prequel to The Ember Files.
