Another Cookie Jar Coffee flavour

My first impression of the scent filling the space is of warm peanut butter cookies fresh from the oven! That sweet and nutty cookie dough smell that is interlaced with the oily notes of peanut butter. The flavour palate is oily roasted peanut, mildly bitter with an almost vanilla fade out. Big thanks to Cookie Jar Coffee this morning for Peanut Butter Cookie Coffee.

How do you like your peanut butter cookies, crumbly or chewy?

If we were having coffee, I would share with you that I had applied to become part of the review team for Foreward/Clarion Reviews back in April. It became official this week and I have been assigned my first book to read and review. I’m real excited about this. I will keep you posted on how it goes. I still want to read my set TBR list, but now I have to balance it with review reading. Fun stuff!

If we were having coffee, I would share with you that we went from snow season to fire season. At one point this week we had ninety-one wildfires burning in Alberta. There have been some devastating results for families and communities. So scary and so sad. After we had virtual coffee last week, evacuation orders came out for the south-end outskirts of town. The smell of smoke had been particularly heavy that day, at 530pm the sky was an eerie orange (see pictures). The emergency alerts came started blasting out from phones . . . The evacuation zone grew over the next few days, but so far, we haven’t evacuated. My thoughts are with everyone touched by the fires. Stay safe.

  1. Yes congratulations on the review job! That’s fantastic! Also I like my peanut butter cookies to be soft and chewy.
I remember our skies here in Oregon looked like that a couple years ago, pictures definitely do justice on how it looks, stay safe!

    1. Thank you, Alexandra. One of the things that I think I’m going to enjoy is the exposure to new authors. I tend to get into a reading nook and stay there, so this will be good for that.

We have bluish skies today. But as of last night, there were 2 new fires on either side of time. The radio said that we are 76 fires still burning in the province and 21 are classed as out of control. We sure do need a good rain fall.

Thanks for stopping. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

  2. Chewy, please. How exciting to have a new adventure in the writing world. Congrats. I hope you stay safe during the wildfire season. You are starting so early. In AZ firefighters are preparing already, but we haven’t had any. Have a great week.

    1. Our snow had no sooner melted and the fires started. No rain in the forecast and this weekend is predicted to be hot. We had some out-of-province firefighting resources come in. It’s great to hear that the AZ firefighters are prepping. Fingers crossed we all get some rain.

  3. Congrats on joining the book review team! I hope you stay safe and don’t have to evacuate during the wildfire season. Thank you for your weekend coffee share.

  4. Oh gosh, we here in Australia understand the fear of those smoky skies. Back in late 2019 much of the state when i lived was engulfed in some parts, and we did not see blue skies for many weeks. Over time, with lots of brave and helpful volunteers and a weather shift all was well. But some people never got back to their homes etc. Awful. Denyse.

    1. Fire is powerful. In the last 7 days, there have been 4 homes burnt and a lot of structures. Evacuations have kept people safe though which is so good. Thanks for stopping in, Denyse.

  5. Congrats on the review job, and those orange skies are really scary looking. As Denyse said, bushfires are a big deal in Australia too – fortunately we don’t get too many wildfires and we’re less “forested” than some parts of the US – so they don’t threaten homes as often as yours do.

    1. Thanks for stopping in, Leanne. Those skies were eerie. It reminded me of a Stephen King movie set, the streets were empty and it was extremely quiet . . .

    1. Thank you, Emily. I’m excited to get reading.

      Chewy cookies are the best.

The fires are scary. My boys were pretty anxious last weekend, they’re a bit less worried and more conscious of it now. It’s sounding like its going to be a dry fire summer season.

    1. Yes, I’m excited about being a reviewer. It’s going to be great to get exposure to some new authors. And yes, the fires are getting pretty close. The whole province is struggling with them.

Hope your weekend is going well. Thanks for stopping in, Trent.

    1. Thank you, I wasn’t sure if I should apply at first simply because of time/schedule but at the end of the day I decided to go for it. I fit in time to read, so why not. Haha. It’s going to be fun.

The snow melted and we haven’t had any moisture since. It’s dry with no rain in the forecast, but we will keep hoping and praying for it.

      Thanks for stopping in.

  6. How fun to review books! Congratulations!
I am sad to hear about the fires. After my years in California fires are one of the things I am the most scared of. My thoughts are with everyone in those areas. Isn’t it very early for wildfire season? Is it very dry?
I hope you and your family stays safe throughout all this.

    1. Thank you, Maria. I’m really looking forward to reading and reviewing on a freelance level.

I recall the fires in California last year or the year before. They were bad. It’s scary, for sure. It doesn’t feel a bit early, but the snow melted and we haven’t had any moisture since. It’s warm and dry with no rain in the forecast.

Happy Sunday, Maria. Thanks for stopping in.

  7. Hi Shari, congrats on your review job and the smell of the cookies makes me want to bake up some peanut butter cookies. I like chewy but will eat crunchy too. I’m so sad about the fires, my heart goes out to those affected. I’m happy you are safe and pray you stay that way! Take care, Diana 💞

  8. mmmmmm.
    Peanut butter cookies.
I just love them with peanut butter so crunchy or soft, both are welcome to my pallet.
    And yikes about those fires.
Didn’t you all have snow on the ground like a week ago?
    That sure changed fast.
We were close to being evacuated 3 years ago and yuck – the air was awful even if we did not have to seek a roof elsewhere, the stress of losing our home was omnipresent.
Stay safe, but lay down a plan and prepack a few key documents and vital meds into a go-bag.
    Stay safe.

    1. We literally went right from snow to fire. There was no in-between and since the snow melted there hasn’t been any rain, no moisture. I’m sorry to hear you went through that, Gary. I can’t imagine how hard it was, we are on edge but just taking things one day at a time. Hope you have a great week. Thanks for stopping in.

  9. I like a thick, chewy PB cookie. Oh my..that’s a lot of fires. Our weather changed quickly and I’m hoping we get some good spots of rain this summer to minimize wildfires. The photo outside your door is crazy looking.

    1. Think and chewy, definitely a good choice. Some peanut butter cookies are thin and crunch. Those are okay once in a while, but chewy wins out for most of us it seems.

We have rain in the forecast. Hopefully, that doesn’t change. I hope you get your rain, too. The door was creepy. I was thinking to myself that I wouldn’t be surprised if the door burst inward and a character straight from a Stephen King or Dean Koontz novel charged in.
