“‘Or something,’ said Judy Moody.”

Those words, “Or something,” are my favourite Judy Moody statement.

“Judy Moody was in a mood” is for grade level 3 to 7, ages 8 to 11. It is a suitable read for boys and girls. The relationship between sister and brother, Judy Moody and Stink, is present in this story. In additional to the Judy Moody series, Megan McDonald has created a series of books for Stink which is actually where my younger son and I were introduced to Judy Moody initially. My son enjoys both characters and their books and so do I.

Most kids experience jitters about the first day of school and kids have a bit of sadness about the summer ending. In addition, both in the book and in real life, there are those Get-to-Know-You projects that get assigned that first week of class. In the case of Judy Moody, it is called a Me Collage. With that in mind, I enjoyed how the storyline of “Judy Moody was in a mood” is told around that Me Collage assignment. There are a number of amusing things that go on and Judy Moody is crafty and inventive with each of them.

“Judy Moody was in a mood” is a memorable title and Judy Moody is a colourful and amusing character. “‘Judy Moody, you’re a mover and a shaker,’ said Mr. Todd.” Judy Moody is a character that young readers can see as a fun friend. She is a realistic representation of a young girl: imaginative, smart, and at times sassy. Overall, “Judy Moody was in a mood” is a great read for children.

    1. I enjoy the way Judy’s full name, Judy Moody, rolls off the tongue which adds to the fun in the title. And speaking of names, Judy has a brother named Stink and he has his own book series.

Thanks for stopping in, Miss Andi.
