This year I am writing a novel.

My previous experience trying to write longer pieces of fiction weren’t successful. Try as I might I just couldn’t get to my end goal. Anyway, the other day I sat down to start a new chapter in the novel I am currently writing and it wasn’t that I was drawing a blank but I couldn’t get started. I was so focus on what my end goal was for the chapter that I was obscuring my path to get there!
Once I got the words flowing and I set into my own writing pace and just let the story lead where it wanted, I had one of those light bulb moments about my own writing process. Being eager to get to the end is a writing killer for me but it also one of my habits. Just letting the words flow, knowing that I will to the end when I get there is something I need to remind myself of. This was the first time that I became conscious of how I was sabotaging my own writing.
Trust the process!
