Assessing the goal

“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” – Jimmy Dean

This year I am writing a novel.

I set out all those months ago with the idea that I wanted to end with 90 – 120 thousand words. I estimated at 3150 to 4200 words a chapter which means probably about 28 chapters.

We are more than half way into the year now which is more than half way into the time frame I have allotted myself for writing the rough draft of The Nameless Files. With that in mind I thought this might be a good time for a check in to see where I am at.

Total Word Count to date: 42, 475 plus about 1000 words started on chapter 12
Chapters to date: 11 chapters and I am part way into writing chapter 12
Time remaining to complete my goal: 6 months and 4 days.

“A goal is a DREAM with a deadline.” – Napoleon Hill

How are your writing goals progressing?

  1. My writing goals aren’t quite as advanced as I would like. The ending of my marriage consumed the first few months of the year, then moving out, landing on my feet, plus a new job. It was a lot.

My goal was to write 500,000 words in 2021. I’m at about 136,692. (I probably have some more than that that are counted differently, but whatever.) I keep plugging away.

    1. I am sorry to hear about your marriage but I am happy to hear the words, “landing on my feet.” It sure does sound like a lot and I can understand why a writing goal might be delayed a bit.

Your word count is goal, 500 000, is wonderful. Is that for an Erotic novel? I think that word count, or something closer to it, might fit my next writing project a bit better. Well, write on Jayden, write on!

      Thanks for stopping in.

  2. It sounds like you are moving along nicely in your novel!! I love following your journey, even though I’ve never written a novel I enjoy reading about yours and others process!! Good luck and hope the words flow easily!! 💙🐴🤠
