Coffee and Flash Fiction

The statement, “it all began with the twinkling of the tea” really sums it up nicely. It was a warm afternoon and Felix and I were sitting on the patio enjoying a warm beverage. The rays of sun were dancing on the coloured liquid in my cup. I was distracted by it and not paying 100 percent attention to Felix who had been droning on and on for some time now about how important our friendship was. Now don’t get me wrong, I think of Felix as my absolute best friend in the whole world but that is where the buck stops: friends.

I should have been paying closer attention because suddenly it wasn’t the twinkling of my tea that was distracting. Instead the twinkling that was stopping the show came from the big diamond he slid across the table with one hand while his other hand slid softly over mine. It occurred to me that I hadn’t really heard anything he had said over the course of the last few minutes and now as I lifted my eyes up to meet his I saw them sparkle with a passion I am not sure how I never noticed before.

My breath stopped and I leapt to my feet causing the twinkling tea to spill over the twinkling diamond which successful smothered the twinkling in his eyes.

If we were having coffee I would explain my intro to coffee this week as holding to my monthly theme of flash fiction. I would ask you if you know where the twinkling of the tea quote is from? Yes, you guessed it “Alice in Wonderland.”

If we were having coffee I would happily tell you with a twinkle of my own that I am 201 days into my 365 post a day challenge. Not bad. It has been a great ride so far and a huge commitment. I really am leaning towards blogging photo prompt posts once a week for 2020 and of course a post for The Weekend Coffee Share.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I am back to work on Monday after a nice week of camping in British Columbia.

If we were having coffee I would ask you how your summer has been so far?

  1. Great story! Love the ending! And, so far, my summer has been very boring. Too hot and humid here to do much outdoors like I usually do.
