Coffee at Summer’s End

I can almost smell that rich pumpkin scent mixed with cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. It is just slowly starting to sift into the air to travel playfully on the gusts of fall wind. If I close my eyes I can imagine those scents rising up from the coffee mug in my hand. However, it is really just a regular coffee I am drinking with a hint of cinnamon in it, but the power of imagination coupled with my love of fall and pumpkin spice lattes helps fulfill the fantasy.

Heavy Sigh

So, if we were having coffee in September I would tell you that we did a long hall road trip before school started that included a swim in the hot springs, a number of hikes, a trip to the Klondike boat, old fashioned family pictures, visiting a dredge, and panning for gold plus a few other adventures.

Peabody's_14It was a great trip!

If we were having our first fall coffee I would tell you that I finished reading book 8 in The Wheel of Time Series as well as three Janet Evanovich novels: The Lizzy & Diesel Series. I love the humour in Evanovich’s writing. After the Lizzy & Diesel series I returned to The Wheel of Time Series, Winter’s Heart, which I am still reading. What are you reading?

If we were sipping hot coffee together in cool weather I would tell you that I have a guest post scheduled for September 14, 2018. It is a funny little piece about a mom who thought she wanted a baby boy. I haven’t had a guest post in a little while so I am real excited to be able to share this piece of writing. I hope you will get a chance to stop by and check it out.

Chicken Soup The Wonder of ChristmasMy final bit of coffee news is in relation to my announcement during my last coffee share post about Chicken Soup for the Soul and my story being accepted by them. “Pawing the Tree” will be published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Wonder of Christmas. It will go on sale on October 16, 2018.

If we were having coffee I would offer you a refill and ask about your coffee share news…

  1. Because I hate summer so much, I celebrated the coming fall with a pumpkin scone (one day) and a pumpkin donut (couple of days later). I know feel semi-satisfied. Just want cooler weather and NO humidity to come soon.
Oh, I also have a pic like that with my two. My daughter was po’d at the time because she wanted a gun (mainly because my son got one). Instead, she got an empty bottle of Jack Daniels. Later on, that prop was one of her favorites. Just a real bottle, or three. 🙂

    1. We have been having fall weather for a while; can’t say we got much of a summer. I love the fall as well, but I hope snow stays away until after the kids go out for Halloween.

The guns were a big deal, and the shove just wasn’t cutting it. We switched props up and they both got a firearm for a couple photos so it back the best day of their lives, haha.

  2. You have a lot of great stuff happening. Congrats on the Chicken Soup for the Soul. Just as a side note, summer has 3 weeks left. I’m milking it for all it ts worth.

  3. Glad your trip was good! I’m reading the fourth book in Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, Wizard and Glass, and listening to the fourth book in Peter V. Brett’s Demon Cycle series, The Skull Throne.

It’s been a few years since I’ve read through the Wheel of Time books, but I absolutely loved them! I do wish that Robert Jordan had been able to finish them himself, but Brandon Sanderson did a masterful job finishing up the series in my opinion. Those final Wheel of Time books were the first Sanderson books I read but definitely not the last. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

    Have a great week!

    1. I have to confess that I haven’t read a lot of Stephen King. I am curious about the Demon Cycle Series you mention, I will have to google it later.

I haven’t read any other books by Brandon Sanderson yet, but I imagine at some point I will check them out. I have looked them up a few times on Chapters, but I would like to finish The Wheel of Time before I get into another heavy series.

You have a great week too!

      1. I haven’t read a lot of King’s stuff either, but thought I’d read the first Dark Tower book before the movie came out. I liked the book, but the movie almost made me quit the series. It was just bad.

When you finish the Wheel of Time, if you’re looking for a heavy series, check out Sanderson’s “Stormlight Archive.” It’s a heavy one for sure, and really good. The only thing is, the series isn’t complete, so there will be some waiting for future books. Don’t you hate that!?

Of course, you can’t go wrong with The Demon Cycle either. Too many books!

  4. “Stormlight Archive,” perfect. Thank you for the tip. Waiting isn’t the greatest but I don’t find it so bad if it is a reasonable amount of time for the what is being researched and written. Thank you again though, I wasn’t sure where to start after I finish The Wheel of Time so that is very helpful! Have a great week.
