Coffee and chapters

Welcome to the twenty-fifth book review of fifty-three. As you know, I used to provide freelance book reviews to several review companies. It was a great experience that introduced me to new authors and their wonderful books. Each week this year, I’m opening my Weekend Coffee shares with a link to a review I’ve provided. Reviews are three stars or higher. The genres range from picture books to fiction and nonfiction titles.

If we were having coffee, I would share that I had a delightful time at my Kingston Indigo book event last Sunday. It is a lovely store. I had some wonderful book conversations with people.

If we were having coffee, I would share that Tuesday was the last book club meeting until the fall. Joining a book club is an item on my 60-before-60 bucket list. It’s been a wonderful activity. I’ve enjoyed that instead of members reading the same book, we read whatever calls to us based on the monthly theme. It’s great for learning about new books.

If we were having coffee, I would share that I opened a FREE Tarot reading post on one of my social media platforms. I’ve been busier than I expected, but loving it. Some lovely reading has come out of it. I also include distance Reiki in my sessions. So, I’m getting practice with a lot of my energy platforms. I plan to open that same offer on another platform once I finish this round of readings. So, if you are interested, watch for that post.

Well, friends, here is the coffee bean grinder. How was your week?

  1. Having reasons and purposes—i.e., being an author and participating in events—to stay in brick-and-mortar bookstores is definitely awesome!

Just yesterday I reevaluated my bucket list for 2026 and my “Intentions” on my journal. Obviously my list includes reading and finishing my TBR, but I also need to be more intentional in maintaining health.

What theme does your book club assign for the month?

    1. What are some books on your TBR, Reinhart? I’m working through my TBR pile this summer, intending to read 16 books before September 1.

June’s book club theme was book-to-screen. We don’t meet over the summer and haven’t set September’s theme yet.

Thank you for stopping in and thank you for your link.

      1. I’m working on reading the Cormoran Strike series. I’ve read the first three books so currently I’m on the #4 one, Lethal White. Maybe this year I’ll go up to #6. And for the non-fiction I’m reading Emotional Agility by Susan David. 👍

    1. I am really enjoying it. It’s been wonderful to talk books with my group; they all love reading as much as I do. It’s been great for learning about new titles, too.

  3. So glad to hear your book event went well!

I love the idea of a book club with a monthly theme instead of one shared book. My mood-reading-self would definitely benefit from such flexibility 🙂

Happy Summer, Shari! Hope your week ahead is awesome!

    1. Hi, Melissa.

The flexibility of this book club is what drew me in. We have two local book clubs, but the other one is the typical group that all read the same book. They seem to have a lot of fun, but when I looked over their titles, it just wasn’t for me.

Happy summer to you, too, Melissa. Hope you had a great week
