Welcome to book review twelve of fifty-three for this year’s virtual coffee shares. I’ve picked books related to the Brewing Coffee, Twisting Words & Breaking Pencils theme—coffee, books, and puzzles.

Author Elsie Wild
Published in October 2023
Publisher is Ulysses Press

A satisfying little book to hold with its hardcover and small size. The interior is decorated with stars, dots, and other cute symbols.
You can find my full review on Goodreads: Coffee Magic for the Modern Witch.
If we were having coffee, I would share a picture of the latest puzzle I completed. It is a 1500-piece Ravensburger puzzle called “Beautiful Sea Unicorns and Friends.” It had some challenging areas to piece together.

If we were having coffee, I would share that I updated my service page with some examples: a style sheet, a proposal with a structural edit, and a memorandum with a stylistic edit. I’ve included them here in case you need help with a writing project. Book coaching is my passion, but I enjoy creating style sheets and doing stylistic and copy edits as well.
If we were having coffee, I would share that I am currently taking part in a course called “Keys to Effective Editing.” Conestoga College offers online. It has been interesting so far, but it’s a bit more like a review for me than new material so far.
If we were having coffee, I would share that it has been cold and snow again here. I am looking forward to some spring weather and some sunshine.
Well, virtual coffee friend, here is the coffee bean grinder. How was your week?

Shari, that’s quite an impressive document. I need to check out your service page to really look it over. I’ve never heard of a style sheet.

Hi Marsha. Style sheets are important for consistency in a manuscript. For example, it was a helpful document for The Ember Files series for things like keeping character names consistently spelled in the whole series. An editor usually creates it at the copyediting stage.
Thanks for stopping in. Happy Saturday.

That’s why I hadn’t heard of them. I’m not an editor – not a professional one anyway. We are all editors of our own blogs. Even that is taxing sometimes. I spend a lot of time on each post – editing and writing. I still end up with mistakes sometimes.

I agree about the time spent editing and updating our blogs. And, yes, some errors still sneak through.

It had some tricky spots, Joanne. I’m working on a scenery puzzle now. Are you working on a puzzle?

I don’t currently have a puzzle set up. But I do have two beach scenes waiting for me that I hope to start on soon.

A beach scene sounds nice. I will watch your coffee share to see if you share a picture of the completed puzzle.
