On the tastebuds

My coffee has a pleasant fragrance. A soft sweet nuttiness. It’s a mild sip with just the right punch of bitterness that leaves hints of nuts lingering on the tastebuds. My coffee is Pralines & Cream flavoured Sundae brand coffee.

If we were having coffee, I would share with you that I started sewing the patches of a small quilt together. It should be complete in time for the shift in seasonal temperatures. My patches are from old clothing, mostly t-shirts, that my boys have grown out of. I have a couple other blankets made from their old t-shirts and I find them to be so comfy. They are my favourite cuddle up with coffee and book blankets.

If we were having coffee, I would share with you that I wrote a post on structural editing earlier this week. I’m still trying to set up the service descriptions for Writing Sparkle Books. Actually, I have a question that I’m hoping you will share your opinion on. In terms of adding descriptions of various services to this blog, I’m a bit unsure of where to post them. Do you think I should create a page with everything listed on it or individual posts about specific services that can be scrolled through in a services category on the drop-down menu? For now, with the structural editing post, I created a link on my home page.

If we were having coffee, I would share that my husband was deployed to help with fires again. So, the boys and I are solo this weekend. For Friday night movie night, we are going to be watching “The Secrets of Dumbledore.” Instead of popcorn, I’m going to snack on chips. I bought salt-and-pepper chips, salt-and-vinegar, and dill pickle. I couldn’t decide on the flavour when I was standing in the chip aisle at the store. If that isn’t bad enough, I’m pretty sure Saturday night is going to involve homemade pizza and a glass of red wine.

Here is the coffee pot. How was your week?

  1. Movie night sounds fun! And I absolutely love the idea of making blankets with the kids’ shirts, I have to do that!

Also, as for your question, I think either option would be great to show your services and honestly, do what is easiest on you, but I do like the thought of a drop down menu for ease of access to the reader!

    1. Friday night movie night has become an end-of-week tradition in my house. We all love it. It also gives us something to look forward to.

Thank you for your opinion on the page versus dropdown service set-up.

      Happy Friday, Alexandra.

  2. My husband’s family always serves pizza with chips; my favorites are salt and vinegar though I find I (rather thankfully) can’t eat nearly as many of them as I used to before the salt and vinegar start to bother me. Wishing your husband and his crew a safe trip to fight the fires.

    1. I ended up eating dill pickle and a few salt-and-pepper. If the chips come out again tonight, then salt-and-vinegar will be the ones. I agree about the flavour; to many and the tastebuds on my tongue start to scream at me.

Have a great weekend, Joanne. Thanks for stopping in.

  3. Hi Shari, about your question, I think you know my blog pretty well and I particularly like to use the buttons at the top of my pages for the reader to use as topical next steps. I just looked at yours again and you have gobs of space for a button which could either open a single other page, like you already have or you could change that button into a pull-down menu.

I use pull downs for my fiction and you can easily navigate for stories by length. To start with, I’d add one new button that takes the reader to a new page with as many links as you like .
You could layout this list by sections. This is what I’ve already done with my [ I recall ] collection of stories.
Several readers have commented on how much they like my layout and how easy it is to find stuff.

One thing I’ve learned not to do.
Forget hierarchical menus deeper than one level below the top menu bar. Apparently many people hate navigating them and when I tried anyway, I got some professional feedback that wasn’t positive. Again you can look at my sorting, this time look at the menu item titled [ Fiction ]. If you mouse over that button the pull-down appears. From that menu you can see items that will expand to just one hierarchical level. This balance has worked very good for me and I’ve got lots of stories sorted now with no blow back from my readers.

Then when I’m in a serious movie snack mode, chips are great except I’ll eat the whole bag but I enjoy air popped popcorn with real butter and just a bit of salt. My wife gave me a microwave popcorn pot which I love. She hated those microwave prepackaged bags because they put so much junk into them that they’re really not very healthy snacks, but with my pot it’s just popcorn, butter and salt – kinda high in fat but no other surprises. and it’s really cheap to keep around and use.

    Enjoy

    1. I’m going to go spend a bit of time surfing around on your blog, Gary. Thank you for the suggestions.

We had a glass microwave popcorn pot and it exploded after a few uses. Not really sure what the deal was. I’m hoping it was a one-off thing. I replaced it with a collapsible microwave rubber thing. My only complaint about it is that it has a strange texture now that it has been used and washed a few times. I do love popcorn though.

      Thanks for stopping in, Gary.

      1. Wow.
Our PC pot has worked flawlessly.
It’s just glass with a silicone lid that fits loosely and has a hollowed out plug for the pot that doubles as a core measurement cup but is also perforated so you can scoop in some butter which melts in the microwave energy then drips down to get mixed I to the popped corn.
I love mine and think it’s a simple but brilliant design.
And BTW, I welcome any day when Canada shows up in my stats so prowl around any time.
