A sweet, cakey smell lingers in the air. The pleasantness of the smell conjures up the promise of fresh fruit, probably strawberries. There are also syrups, jams, whip cream, and French vanilla ice cream. Is it a breakfast food or a dessert? The yellowish batter is poured generously onto a hot waffle iron and sealed in. The batter, when heated this way, turns a golden colour with a grid-like pattern cooked into it. Typically, circular or square shaped, this pancake-like food is a treat. Crispy on the outside but tender inside. Vanilla and cinnamon shine in the waffle’s flavour, delicious.

I like adding a splash of cinnamon to the batter and it smells lovely.

My dad wasn’t much of a cook, but waffles and ice cream was his favorite!

I’ve always just put margarine on my waffles. Ice cream and whipped cream sound yummy.

My husband does the margarine thing. I have a sweet tooth, so I usually go for syrup, jam or sometimes peanut butter.
