Platforms? Options? Choices?

This year I have been writing a novel and the novel is finished in rough.

It is interesting in the wake of finishing a rough draft one would think that there is down time. However, this is far from the case. The editing starts and there are so many more things to consider and to work on. For example, once editing is finished does a writer self-publish or try traditional publishing. That reminds me, I learned a new term while starting my research on publishing options. Indie Author. I hadn’t heard this term and I am happy to report that I know understand it to mean Independently published author.

There is a lot to think about if choosing to self-publish and a lot to learn if it is your first time through the process. So, I have been spending a bit of time trying to educate myself there. When I think of traditional publishing my first thoughts are all about the query letter.

Other things, that have been on my mind involve social media. What platforms do you use to advertise your writing? How do you increase followers on your social media platforms?

  1. Shari, There are a few published authors in the Weekend Coffee Share blogging community. My suggestion is to contact them and request an information session or the link to their blog post if they’ve blogged about their publishing experience. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and all the best for 2022.

  2. Shari, I would suggest you invest in conferences on indie publishing. There are many online. I participated in the Women In Publishing last spring and signed up for another session in March. It is chock full of industry info, workshops, etc. Good luck.

  3. Hi Shari,

I’m sure this topic could bury us and consume all waking hours for several months if allowed to do so.

I’ve followed Antoinette’s path for a couple of years now and she is a rock star in my my opinion. Your book is very different from hers so publishing means and market are wildly different, but her wisdom and insights are something I would both invite and pay careful attention to.

But that said, I’m not even close to being able to advise you but sense that you are looking for answers in the right corners. I hope you keep us current on what you learn along the way.

    Good hunting.
