A Blackstrap Coffee

What is your coffee flavour this morning? I am having an original roast with a teaspoon of Blackstrap molasses. It adds a nice robust and slightly bitter taste to my cup that I enjoy on occasion.

If we were having coffee I would smile and ask, “How are you? How have you been?”

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I haven’t felt much like writing lately to the point that I missed having a virtual cup with you last week and I did not supply a photo prompt this week. I did write up a piece for the Online Celebration blog that I created for my mother. The post is called “Honouring & Grieving.” I show case some of mom’s furniture on this piece that I have been working to refinish. If you would like to check it out you can here at The Spirit Lives On.

This is the rocking chair that I had re-upholstered.

I also finished this little desk.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that we tried a new game for family game time, Blokus. It is a strategy game were you lay pre-shaped blocks on a board and try to block you opponents. Its fun and the boys seem to be hooked on it right now. I am thinking about getting Ticket to Ride or Risk at some point, but I have not played either so I am not sure yet. Have you played any of these games?

If we were having coffee I would tell you that our summer vacation is drawing to an end. We were blessed to have real nice weather for our holidays and we made good use of the outside time with a bit of camping, badminton, soccer and bouncy castle. Of course, there was a bit of relaxing as well.

If we were having coffee I should probably mention this year’s Shark Week dessert. Instead of cupcakes this year I decided to make a cake. It turned out nicely and was very tasty with little bits of fresh strawberry and cherries mixed into one of the layers.

If we were having coffee I would thank you for the chat and wish you a wonderful weekend!

  1. We and the kiddos loved blockus.

But this reminds me of of several road trips when the kids were cranky about sitting still for hours in the van and on the spot I concieved a game that would keep them mentally busy and distracted. We called it ‘Sentence Snake’. The rules were simple.
Each round, one of them would chose a letter of the alphabet; e.g. “T” and started the sentence, e.g. “Tired Tim tried.”
The next person needed to, 1) repeat the existing sentence and 2) add 1-2 words anywhere in the sentence, but all words had to start with “T”.
The next person would add another, and another, etc. resulting in soon, they were laughing about how, “Today (Thursday) tired Tim tried two tainted turkey Twinkies that tasted terribly twisted. . . and so on.
Soon the sentence and the attempts to repeat grew to something you could not help but laugh at.
Soon Mom was packing a tablet to try and record the existing sentences which greatly extended some of the delightful nonsense.

Man – I miss those road trips now.

  2. Thank you for the coffee, I may have to try mine with molasses. Sounds interesting! My family loves games and with my daughter in the Air Force she is always buying and playing new games as the military families get together for game nights. So fun and I’m so blessed since they move so much they truly are a tight knit family group. I’ve played both games and since Risk is all strategy and I think takes awhile to play (and win) I think Ticket to Ride is super fun and still has some strategy to it so that would be my choice. I hope you feel better, it takes time ❤️ and I love the refinishing items you’ve shared. 🥰
