The smell of baked apples, cinnamon and sweet sugar is heavy in the air. Warmth from the oven is comforting on this chilly fall morning. I can’t help but anticipate that hot hazelnut coffee this morning with a sprinkle of cinnamon in it. The hazelnut coffee on its own would pair nicely with the apple crisp but that hint of cinnamon in it just heightens it all. The air is so alive with delicious smells that with just the right breath the tastes come alive on my taste buds. Welcome September. Welcome fall and welcome to you this morning of virtual coffees.
If we were having coffee I would introduce you to my September theme if you haven’t guessed it already: fall. This month’s posts on Writing is Communication will be built around this wonderful theme and as always I hope that you will join in by paying a visit or getting a bit more involved with comments and your own interpretation of the theme.
If we were having coffee I would share my fun news. Last weekend we got a new addition to our family. This is Alice. Alice is my new truck.
If we were having coffee I would share with you that back to school was a success for my boys. They both loved their first week which is great for all of us. I think it is going to be a great school year.
Thanks to everyone that offered a next reading suggestion to me. Terry Pratechett’s Discworld Series sounds interesting. I mean a world on the back of a turtle? Love the idea of it. That said, I think The Stormlight Archive, Shannara Chronicles, Darkover, The Green Rider Series and Chronicles of Amber are the ones that seem to be calling to me. I am thinking I might just go to the bookstore and see which of the series has book 1 on the shelves. In the meantime I powered through The Chase and I am almost through The Job from The Fox and O’Hare Series.
How was your week?

I’m glad that in your description of coffee you didn’t use those words you used in your last post 😉 Cinnamon, sugar and hazelnut sure beat that PS stuff… Not much of a truck person, but Alice looks nice. It’s funny, one of my favorite books is Good Omens, but I don’t think I’ve ever read Terry Pratechett on his own. I might have to give it a try. Have a good weekend!

Ah, some quiet fall days are coming and the stack of books to be read is almost complete. Good times are coming.

Your opening was very evocative! I was toying with making an apple and bramble pie for tonight’s tea and this has pushed me over the edge! Love the truck!

One of my Native “cousins” told a story about the world being on the back of a turtle… I saw that you were reading a book that now I’m going to have to see if I can find. Congrats on the new truck. Reminds me I need to contact broinlaw as soon as we have a move date to bring his down. He promised to help us move the furniture (we don’t have much, but Grandma’s dressers are made old-school and are h-e-a-v-y! ). We’re packing here, so all cds/dvds/books are packed leaving us with the selection at the library… most of which I’ve read the decent ones over the past decade here. Hope you have a good week! BTW, now you’ve got me craving some apple crispy… Now, where did I pack the baking pans???? Shalom, Bear

Thank you for that delicious coffee! Sorry I’m a bit late, it’s been a busy weekend (when it is ever not a busy weekend..?) Your week sounds amazing. So happy your boys like their school. It is so important, for everyone. I hope your new week started out in the best possible way!
