Steam & Scribbles

Welcome to the thirty-fourth book review of fifty-three. As you know, I used to provide freelance book reviews to several review companies. It was a great experience that introduced me to new authors and their wonderful books. Each week this year, I’m opening my Weekend Coffee shares with a link to a review I’ve provided. Reviews are three stars or higher. The genres range from picture books to fiction and nonfiction titles.

Bone Crossed (Book 4 in series)
Author is Patricia Briggs
Published in January 2010
The publisher is Ace Fantasy (reprint)
Available in Audiobook, eBook, Hardcover, and Mass Market (287 pages)
Urban Fantasy (Books) | Werewolves and Shifters Paranormal Romance | Fantasy Action & Adventure

If we were having coffee, I would ask you: Have you ever seen a book advertisement that attracted your attention to the point where you wanted to check out the book? Did you purchase the book? What draws you into a book advertisement? Advertising is hard. Anyway, I switched gears from writing to creating advertising for a few weeks.

If we were having coffee, I would share that I have a few chapters left to write in the second book in my middle-grade series. I have decided to write 12 books in this series. I set The Lost Goblin Map in July. Book two is set in August. I plan to continue, and each book will be set in a consecutive month. With that in mind, I’m wavering between writing the remaining ten books in rough. Or finish, edit, and release book two before moving on to write the third. I will let you know which way I go with it.

If we were having coffee, I would share that I’m making suncatchers from a kit that includes geodes. They’re pretty, and I’m excited to hang them in my windows.

Well, virtual friend, here is the coffee bean grinder. How was your week?

  1. Promoting a book is hard work as there are so many books published every day. I understand the need for creative people to create though, whether it’s books or art and crafts. You don’t want to read this but I have stopped buying books for myself for a long time. I borrow books from the library for my leisure reading. Thank you for your weekend coffee share.

    1. Yes, my son asked about my books the other day when I was creating advertising. I likened one of my books to a grain of sand on the beach. There are so many books.

I think using the library is great, Natalie. The book club I attend meets at our local library, and most of the participants get their copy of our monthly book from there. I’m also a fan of the little outdoor library that people put at the end of their driveways. I’m in the process of making one.

Thanks for stopping in. And thanks for hosting Weekend Coffee Share.

  2. Oddly enough, most of the books I read are for review, and I often don’t see the covers before I agree to read/review. So while I of course have seen covers that I love, it’s frequently after I’ve chosen the book based on the title, summary, or author.

  3. I hope you show us the sun catcher when it’s done, I love sun catchers. Advertisement and selling things are difficult. I tried having a photography business once and that was most challenging, and I believe the main reason why I choose to quit photography as a business. i wish you the best of luck with your books and advertisement of them.
