Coffee, reviews, and psychics.

Welcome to book review thirty-eight of fifty-two for this year’s virtual coffee shares. I’ve picked books related to the Brewing Coffee, Twisting Words & Breaking Pencils theme—coffee, books, and puzzles.

I have not finished reading this book yet; I am over 60% into the narrative.

A playful cartoon cover image drew me to read That Old Witch. The cover suggests a different age range than adults, but it is an adult read. The writing is good, but in terms of the storyline, I was disappointed that the death that occurs at the very beginning of the book doesn’t get deemed murder until 47% into the novel. This is when the main characters investigate, and “investigate” is a loose term for what they do. Sleuthing isn’t the focus; the character’s antics and day-to-day make up the bulk of the story.

If we were having coffee, I would share a picture of the puzzle I mentioned last week. I won’t be working on another puzzle for at least a week or more because I have too much other stuff to focus on. However, I have a couple of Halloween-themed puzzles waiting.

If we were having coffee, I would share that I attended a psychic fair last weekend. I spoke with two different psychics and found both experiences to be interesting and insightful. One was a medium experience, and the other was a chakra cleanse. Additionally, I purchased a set of dowsing rods. They’ve been fun to use. This is writing research and a personal interest.

If we were having coffee, I would pass you the coffee bean grinder and sit back to hear about your week.

  1. That puzzle looks very busy and interesting. I’m sure the Halloween puzzles will be fun once you get to them.

I am not sure about a visit to a psychic. I guess suspend my disbelief for a little while? I can imagine it would be fun research for you.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend and have a wonderful week ahead!

Here is my coffee share post: If We Were Having Coffee on the 20th of September, 2025 #weekendcoffeeshare | Trent’s World (the Blog) if you want to stop by for a visit 🙂

    1. It is an interesting experience. With the psychic fairs, there is no pre-booking. You just walk in, select a psychic, and wait for your turn (sometimes there is no waiting). It’s fascinating when they can tell you things about yourself and life that there is no way they could know.

Thanks for the link. Heading your way now.

  2. Did you have a chance to finish your book? I am currently only reading school books, as I also have lots of other things to focus on at the moment (like moving on Friday). I hope your new week got off to a great start!
