Coffee Blog

Hearts, sharks, books, and coffee.

Welcome to book review thirty-one of fifty-two for this year’s virtual coffee shares. I’ve picked books related to the Brewing Coffee, Twisting Words & Breaking Pencils theme—coffee, books, and puzzles.

The Jigsaw Puzzle

Short Stories (Books) | Cozy Mysteries (Books) | Short Stories (Kindle Store)

Amazon’s rating for The Jigsaw Puzzle is 4.3 out of 5. This is book one of the Penny Plain Mysteries. I enjoyed the use of jigsaw puzzles to create mystery and the art focus, but it’s a quick read.

If we were having coffee, I would share that I am reading Storm Front by Jim Butcher. The instructor of the Fantasy Writing course I finished a couple of months ago recommended this series. Storm Front is book one. It’s been an interesting read so far.

If we were having coffee, I would share that I watched some of Shark Week this year. We don’t have a television at our summer house. So, for the last couple of years, I haven’t been able to watch, but this year I downloaded the Prime Video app and watched a few episodes on my phone. I wanted to watch while floating on a tube in the water, but my sons weren’t happy with that idea, even though our lake is freshwater.

If we were having coffee, I would share that we took a boat tour (St. Lawrence Seaway) this week to Heart Island and walked through Boldt Castle. It was a great day. Here are a few pictures.

This is my husband and I on the porch at Boldt Castle. The boys were with us, but they were difficult to photograph. The best way I can think to describe trying to catch them on photo is to compare the experience to trying to photograph Bigfoot!

Okay, virtual friend, here is the coffee bean grinder. How was your week?

  1. You are definitely enjoying summer! Time at a summer house by a lake and a boat tour with the family that sounds amazing. I dream of one day owning a house by a lake. Thanks for the coffee.

    1. It is a relaxing place to be, Maria. We have crickets chirping at night and birds singing in the morning. We have a family of loons that live on the lake and they make a wonderful sound in the evenings.

      Happy Saturday.

  2. The castle looks cool. Are you visiting your Ontario home? I think I told you that as a kid I vacationed not too far from Kingston most years.

I read Storm Front a few years ago and really liked it but for some reason I never picked up the rest of the series. My sister highly recommended the series to me, but I got distracted.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend and have a wonderful week 🙂

    1. Yes, we are visiting Ontario. It’s been a relaxing time.

I have book two for the series in my TBR list on Goodreads, which I use to track books I plan to read but not right way.

      Happy Sunday, Trent.

  3. Your lake looks beautiful! I love Shark Week, but after watching it for a bunch of years, I noticed that a lot of the shows are the same year after year. I wonder if that’s changed. 🙂 Maybe I should check out some of them! Then again, I’m about to get on a cruise ship…
