Easter weekend and a virtual coffee.

Welcome to book review sixteen of fifty-three for this year’s virtual coffee shares. I’ve picked books that are related to the theme here at Brewing Coffee, Twisting Words & Breaking Pencils—coffee, books, and puzzles.

“Coffee and crime may not seem the likeliest of pairs, but you’d be surprised how often they went together.” – Cleo Coyle

For me, the large gaps—sometimes chapters long—between investigating the murder made the sleuthing and crime lack focus. The crime didn’t become a murder until over 80% into the book, and suspects weren’t identified until over halfway into the narrative.

If we were having coffee, I would start by sharing the puzzle my husband and I finished this week. My husband rarely puzzles with me, so when he picked this puzzle, it was a nice surprise.

If we were having coffee, I would share that my husband and my older son are off on an adventure together. They left earlier this week. This year, my younger son and I will celebrate Easter alone. It’s strange to spend it separately, but we have some fun stuff planned: a movie marathon, treats, and finger foods for Easter dinner . . .

If we were having coffee, I would share that I signed up and started a new course. It’s a fantasy novel writing course. I will earn a certificate at the end, which will add to my book coaching profile. My other purpose relates to my novel. I’m planning to use the course to help get me back on track with my world-building. That reminds me, you might find me posting a bit more frequently about my books over the next few weeks. It’s because I am gearing up for the release of The Funny Side.

What else can I share? I’m cutting patches for a new quilt (a different puzzle). I’m reading Go Tell the Bees I’m Gone. A-to-Z is going well, and there are fewer than two weeks left. I love taking part in the challenge, but I’m looking forward to returning to my regular blogging schedule.

Happy Easter weekend. Here is the coffee bean grinder. Tell me, how was your week? Do you have plans for the holiday weekend?

  1. That is another fabulous puzzle. Best of luck with your class. My son decided not to come home from college for Easter so we wont all be together this year either but we don’t really have any plans.

  2. Happy Easter! I hope you are enjoying a mellow weekend 🙂

I *loved Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone and am impatiently awaiting her next installation!

I, too, am enjoying A to Z on the family history blog and am also looking forward to finding balance between all my blogs again 🙂

Good luck with the quilt! My oldest daughter is planning her first!

  3. We had a nice long break around Easter, and it was great to spend some time cleaning and organizing our house, going on a very long walk through the local(ish) gardens, visiting with family and friends, and spending time together. It was a lovely time! I am actually going to be assisting with some quilting today!

I also love A to Z, but I always struggle to keep up. My goal is perpetually to have my posts pre-scheduled so I can just enjoy going and reading, but it never seems to happen. So instead, I spend April trying to get my posts up on time (but most succeeding), but here we are on the 27th of April, and I am just now reading through other people’s blog posts! (And I’ve only started on the blogs I already read, much less finding new ones!) But that’s why we have the Road Trip later on so I can go back and find some new blogs. Even if I don’t read their whole A to Z, I still may find some that I enjoy reading on a regular basis.
