Office Space

I don’t always write in my office, but having it available for days when I need to hide away from distractions to get my work done. Settling into my office cues my brain to write.

Are you creating a writing space? Do you already have an office?

Fussy Librarian shared a post called “How to create an ideal writing space.”

NY Book Editors also share a post about office space: “How to Create the Perfect Writing Space.”

I wrote this post for letter O of the 2025 A-to-Z blogging challenge.

  1. I do have an office space but haven’t used it since last fall. We swapped computers around so hubby could have one in his hobby barn and now I use my laptop with a dock for my office. Winter was cold and we kept the office and guest room shut to conserve on the heating. Now that it’s getting warmer, I will move back in and stop working from my lap. LOL!

    1. I find that I write at the kitchen table more than in my office. I use the office when I have webinars and zoom meeting. I love the office space, but when the kids are at school and my husband is at work it’s just as easy to plunk myself down at the table.

      1. The kitchen table is hubby’s spot. He spends his spare time there on his 12″ iPad Pro which he uses like a desktop. His papers are strewn all over the place, too. LOL!

  2. We live in a small home on a large piece of property. Think Little House on the Prairie in size and layout but with a proper bathroom 😉 Alas, I don’t have an office, but I *do have a nice desk in our bedroom and a large bookshelf to house all my various writing (and reading) interests. I fantasize about a proper office one day, but what I’ve created works for now.

    1. When we move to our new house I won’t have an office either, but I have an antique writing desk in storage and that desk will be my designated writing space. I think that it will be wonderful.

  3. I love having an office! It’s the first time in my life I’ve had one that wasn’t a corner of the living room. I enjoy being able to go in there and wrap my head around whatever I’m doing, but I also like taking my laptop to the living room and writing there, or going to a coffee/tea shop (that’s my favorite place to write, honestly). I find that when I go somewhere with the express intent to write, I get a lot more done than I would anywhere else.
