There are a lot of different questions fans might ask their favourite authors. They fall into various categories: inspiration, motivation, development, writing tips and advice, etc. Today, though, I went a different way. Here is my question, which I will also answer:
If you could invite any five authors—living or deceased—to dinner, who would you have seated around the table?
My answer (at least today) is Lewis Carroll, J.R.R. Tolkien, Margaret Atwood, J.K. Rowling, and Roald Dahl.
Who would you invite?

I wrote this post for letter F of the 2025 A-to-Z blog challenge.

Sounds like an interesting dinner party, but throwing Shakespeare and Douglas Adams into the mix might prove even more interesting 😉 Actually, A. A. Milne and Steven King would be about the oddest combination out there…

What a fun question. No doubt my answer would change every single day, but today my invitations would go to: Mary Oliver, Charles de Lint, Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Rebecca Solnit, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Part of what I enjoy about the question is how my answer changes depending on the day. There are too many amazing authors to answer the question with just five names.
Thanks for your answer.

One of my favourite books as a child was Van Loon’s Lives (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Loon%27s_Lives ) In the book he invites famous (and sometimes infamous) great men and women of history to dinner. At the beginning of each chapter he writes about the lives of the people invited that week. He then describes the dinner party and the interaction of the guests. I learned a lot from the book.
