Would you rather be served a coffee made by a five-year-old or a person with a cold? **Safety assured, I would rather drink coffee made by a five-year-old than a person with a cold.
Would you rather drink coffee on a plane or on a train? **I would rather sip my coffee while I watch the clouds from an airplane window.
If we were having coffee, I would update you about my email list. Some of you may be on it, but I have decided that I’m shutting it down. I know that having an email list is one of the big things recommended for authors, but it isn’t working for me. I realized my Coffee Share acts very similarly to my emails, but what I love about Coffee Share is our interaction. The back-and-forth comments and being able to visit your posts too. Thank you to all of you for your support here and on my email list.

If we were having coffee, I would share that I think I am going to update my social media strategy as well. I will continue regular posts on my platforms, but I need to do something different with the content. Right now I share a lot of other people’s images, which I source from places like BookBrush, Facebook (FB) I Coffee, FB The Unique Side, FB I Love Books And Coffee, FB Coffee Lovers Club, FB Coffee Fuels the World, FB Canadian Humour, FB Coffee’s My Favorite, FB Grinch Galore, FB Boxers lovers, FB We Love Christmas, and Goodwillibrarian from Instagram . . . Thank you to them for all their wonderful shares. Anyway, I’m coming up with something different. What do you share on your platforms?
If we were having coffee, I would share that I started my Polarbear Princess puzzle. It’s going to be a challenging one, which means slow progress. I will share a picture once I complete it. If you will excuse me, I’m going to make another cup of coffee and work on it now. But first, here is the coffee pot. How was your week?

I love train rides, so having coffee in a train is what I prefer 😃!

I’m going to have to add coffee in a train to my To-Do List.

I know they say email is the way to go for any self-promotion, but when I get over 100 emails a day (not including my email that all of the WP notifications go to – I always click “no email”)” when I subscribe, but I still get about 500 WP emails a day), I instantly delete anything that is not 100% vital or 100% personal. I think most people do as well. When I was trying to push my books, I relied on social media, but it was tough to find the right balance – when I published my first book, I lost over half of my regular readers in two weeks. I read a few posts from ex-readers about how much they hate people like me using my blog to push their books. It got better after that, but it is difficult.
Anyway, I hope you are enjoying your weekend and have a wonderful week ahead!

I am the same with my email. It becomes overwhelming. And advertising our books on social media is definitely a balance. I know when I’m following people I like hearing about their writing and books, but not in every post. I like to see other content as well.
What I like about the blog is that it’s a supportive environment. We talk—through back-and-forth comments—about books, writing, reading, and other parts of life. There isn’t any pressure. It is a comfortable space.
That makes me think, are you working on a new book?
Happy Saturday, Trent.

Real quick answer – I’ve had a book of short stories mostly ready to go (not formatted) for years. My beta readers never got back to me and I had a lot of questions about some of the stories (questions I will only ask -after- the beta readers have replied). I have a few other books mostly written, but only one that I’d want to see the light of day. I did several drafts and am almost the point of doing final editing but again am waiting for beta readers.

Yes, the beta reader stage is challenging. People are so busy. Perhaps this is a good time of the year to find a beta reader. With the change in weather reading a book while all cozy seems appealing.

I do need to find a new beta reader. Perhaps you are right, as the cold weather moves in I will have better luck.

Good luck with your book promotion. It is tough for authors to be recognized. Thank you for your weekend coffee share.

Hi Sheri,
I am yet to write the book, let alone promote the book, although I have worked as a marketing manager. I am an avid book collector and looking at our house, you’d think I have no restraint, but I have improved. Do you do author talks? I find it very hard to resist buying books at author talks. They really help to bring the book to life for me. I also tend to buy books as gifts from our local bookshop rather than fighting it out with crowds at the shops especially this time of year. I agree with Trent about receiving promotional emails and I’m not interested in book promotions on WP either. However, throw in some writing or publishing tips, and I’d love that. I also prefer non-fiction which makes me very picky about buying a novel.
Best wishes,
Rowena

Hi Rowena. I did my first author event in October, and speaking with people who came by my table was lovely. I loved getting book recommendations during those chats. Writing and publishing tips are wonderful to read and share.
Thanks for stopping in. I hope you have a great rest of your week.
