Sometimes coffee controls me

The smell of my coffee this morning makes my tastebuds quiver. Perhaps my coffee addiction is overpowering me, but that first sip can’t cross the threshold of my mouth fast enough. Excuse me a second while I devour this day’s first cup of coffee.

Okay, now where were we? Oh, yes. If we were having coffee, I would ask you how your Halloween went. Ours was low key and warmer than I expected given that we have already had snowfall.

If we were having coffee, I would share with you the secret adventure that I referenced in the last coffee share. My husband and I accidentally bought a piece of property. I say “accidentally” because we weren’t shopping for anything, especially property; we aren’t financial risk-takers and this is a bit of a risk by our standards; and we don’t make statements about being in the right place at the right time. Anyway, because the property is in Ontario, we had to fly there to take possession and set the property up for Airbnb. So, I have been busy setting up a new website for this new adventure. You can view the homepage here. You can see The Lakefront House here. If you are looking to rest and recharge, this is the place. If you are looking for creative inspiration that can be found at The Lakefront House too.

If we were having coffee, I would share that we ended our trip to Ontario by spending a few days in Edmonton when we returned to Alberta. While we were in Edmonton, I visited a tarot card reader. I hadn’t had my cards read before this and it was wild how accurate she was with those cards. We weren’t a pre-booked appointment; it was a complete spur-of-the-moment decision to walk into the shop where I stumbled into an obscure room that I hadn’t expected to find a witch sitting in. She introduced herself as a witch and artist. She had an amazing energy about her. The overall experience was so enjoyable that I took my husband, sister-in-law and her husband back and they all got readings too.

If we were having coffee, I would share my last piece of coffee news for this week. I signed up for NaNoWriMo. Some of you might recall that I wrote chapter one of my final novel in The Ember Files during the summer. I haven’t worked on it since. The outline is done, and I decided that signing up for NaNoWriMo gave me a bit of accountability. Are you taking part in NaNo this November?

  1. Oh I hope the new venture goes well! My husband and I have been talking about buying an investment property as well but house prices (and mortgages!) are just sky high here in the states right now… and I’m so reluctant to take the risk.

  2. What an exciting time for you and your husband! I hope it all works out wonderfully! Best of luck with NaNoWriMo! I haven’t signed up for it…ever…but continue to keep it on my radar, so I hope to eventually 😉 Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Happy Sunday, Melis. Thanks for stopping in.

For me, the key to a successful NaNoWriMo is preparation beforehand. Hitting the word count can be challenging enough on its own. Going in without character profiles or an outline would make it overwhelming. Since I’m writing a fourth series book, my character profiles are established and I wrote the outline before the summer—procrastination set in. NaNo is my accountability piece this time around.

  3. Congratulations on the unexpected house! Quite a distance from you, but it looks very nice. As a kid (and a few times as a young adult), I stayed not super far from there – look for the tiny town of Battersea just north of Kingston. Actually, we were half way between there and another tiny village, Seeley’s Bay.
    Good luck in the NaNoWriMo!
Hope you are having a great weekend 🙂

  4. HI Shari,
That you bought an investment property sounds both wise and fun.
I know real estate can be a busy way to invest, but it really can be lucrative and I hope it pans out for you guys.
I hope you share some of what you learn along the way.
    Blessings

  5. Good luck with NaNoWriMo this month. I hope you get lots done. I chucked at your announcement that you accidentally bought some property. Good luck with your Air BnB. Are you hiring a property manager to take care of it? We have one in Scottsdale that we now rent out to friends (including blogging friends, of course).

    1. Thank you, Marsha. You know, we haven’t been successful in finding a property manager. The ones we found in the area only take on rental units, not Airbnb rentals. So, we have something temporary set up but are still looking.

      1. We found that to be hard. Living only an hour and a half a way we could almost do it ourselves, but you have to get help within an hour if there is an emergency. That requires knowing people to call or being able to respond yourself. I wish you the very best because your place looks awesome! 🙂
