What? Churros flavoured coffee?

Bean Around the World coffee—Spain—Churros flavoured coffee fills my mug today. I must start with a confession. I’ve never tried a Churro; the opportunity just hasn’t come up. My point is that I have no basis for comparison to my coffee. I will tell you that my java has a sugar smell even though I drink it black. The taste is smooth with hints of a caramelized sugar that has a burnt fadeout flavour. It is actually a pleasant sip.

If we were having coffee, I would share with you that the weather has been nice. So, I have been able to sand the top half of my shelf and I am almost done. I hope to start whitewashing it by next week. Hopefully, I will have some pictures to share with you soon.

If we were having coffee, that I am currently reading Postmortem by Patricia Cornwell. It’s a great read and I like Dr Scarpetta’s character. I also just finished reading a memoir for a freelance review. It doesn’t come out until the fall, and it was so good that I can’t wait to share about it. It brought me to tears. More on that in the fall. What are you reading?

If we were having coffee, I would share that I eagerly awaiting the beginning of Shark Week. I think I am going to do a Shark Week dessert this year. Here are some images from previous year’s Shark Weeks. Do you watch Shark Week?

If we were having coffee, I would pass you the coffee pot and listen with a smile to the details of your week.

  1. Hi Shari:
Have you ever read anything by Adrian Tchaikovsky? Since I’ve had time I’ve been hitting his books (majority over 400 pgs) and really enjoying his work. Primarily SciFi, but he does work in fantasy as well.

      1. Check out Shards of Earth or Children of Time—first books in trilogies. I’ve ordered the second book in both series from the library. Waiting on them to arrive.

        1. Shards of Earth sounds really good. As I was reading the description “The 100” popped into my head. Children of Time sounds good too, but I think I will start with the other one (if I can find a copy). Thanks, Stu.

  2. I love shark week! But I stopped watching a while ago because it was very repetitive year to year. I’m sure it’s been long enough that it’s all new to me! 🙂

    1. I haven’t seen any previews for this year’s show line-up. In the last couple of years, I learned about a couple of sharks that I hadn’t been aware of before: goblin shark and epaulette shark.

    1. Thanks, Marsha. Shark Week runs on the Discovery Channel here in Canada. I’m not sure what channel it might be on in other countries, but given that it’s filmed all over the world I imagine it’s one all over. Thanks for stopping in. Happy Saturday.

      1. I’ll have to check it out. Jaws scared me enough as a kid that I’m not a super fan, but yours are too cute. There’s a movie about a surfer who survived a shark attack that took off her entire arm. She lived to surf again. It’s an inspiring movie. It’s called “Soul Surfer.”

    2. opps. Hi Marsha. I meant to click on reply to your comment to Shari. If you read down, you’ll find my comment to her. I meant that to be to both of you, but sometimes my fingers don’t pay much attention to my preferences.

  3. Hi Shari and

Hi Marsha. I too think the only reason I know anything about shark week is by reading Shari’s posts about it. We don’t do any broadcast TV in our home mostly because I can’t stand the commercials interrupting. I just never acclimated to such a thing.

Shari, I’m not surprised that you’re a black coffee drinker. I tried, I really did but could not stand the taste of raw coffee. A bit of sugar and a decent dose of milk are needed for me to even try it – which goes against many principals I normally abide by.

Good to hear that you’re still doing refinishing wood work. Did I not warn you how addicting it can be?

Fun post, but now I want some cake, cup or otherwise, doesn’t matter.

    Blessings.

    1. Happy Saturday, Gary. Thanks for stopping in.

I’m a Shark Week addict. I do hear you about commercials though. It’s funny how we have gotten used to watching commercial-free shows now. I can remember as a child being eager to see the commercials, especially if it was close to Christmas or my birthday—what great toy is available now . . .

The furniture refinishing is addicting! I have a list of projects that I would like to take on. I have to pace it though because my hand aches if I hold the sander too long and, of course, the weather in Northern Alberta dictates my work schedule for refinishing.

        1. Yes, you are correct. It runs on Discover Channel, but for some reason, I think I have seen episodes on Disney or Netflix maybe. It is all sharks: research, various species, population growth or decimation . . . There are some really interesting episodes. I like to watch ones about sharks that are new to me. There was one on sand sharks a year or two ago; they pup live babies, but usually, only one because they eat each other while in utero! That said, I love the mako, tiger, and great white. Shark Week was also how I learned about the megalodon.

  4. I can imagine that the churro coffee smells very good. Personally I love the smell of churros, and get equally disappointed every time I take the first bite. The smell reminds me of childhood walks in Marbella with my mom. My parents used to have a house there, now it’s my dads.

    1. It always surprises me the way memories can sneak up when triggered by a smell or a flavour. Thanks for stopping in, Maria. I hope you have a great weekend.

  5. I think churros are yummy, much like a cinnamon donut and are best when freshly made! The crispy edges are delightful since they are deep fried, with a soft donut like center, yummy!!

When my boys were younger they would watch shark week, but it’s not something I look up on my own. Thanks for the coffee and I hope you have a great week ahead!!

    1. I think I’m going to have to make tasting real churros a priority. They sound delicious.

My boys watch a bit of shark week with me, but we have to make sure the episode isn’t about shark attacks. Those can be a bit intense and graphic. And if we are going swimming in the next few months after shark week, then they don’t want to watch any episodes at all. We swim in freshwater, typically not connected to the ocean, but the boys have active imaginations so they steer clear of the TV. Haha.

      Thanks for stopping in Diana.

  6. I haven’t watched Shark Week in a long time. I do love those shark cupcakes. If my kid wants a baby shark themed party, I may consider your cupcake idea.
