Judy Blume has so many great books. Some of my childhood favourites, besides Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, are Are You There God? It’s me Margaret, Just as Long as We’re Together, and Blubber. I actually still have my childhood copies of Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret and Just as Long as We’re Together. I haven’t re-read them, but I think I will and then share a review…
The following review was originally posted on Goodreads: May 2022.
“Eat it or wear it.” – Fudge’s father and Fudge.
Judy Blume was one of my favourite authors when I was a child. Now, years later, as a mother, Judy Blume remains one of my favourite authors, but now my children enjoy reading her too.
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is the first book in the Fudge series. It is well written. The pace is great for the intended age range and the characters behave realistically. As a mother of two boys, I am familiar with the younger brother wanting to be like the older brother and constantly invading his space. I can also say that the older brother is not usually very pleased with the antics of his younger brother. The story is relatable for adult and child.
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing is funny. Fudge gets into wild things. He causes trouble and is uncooperative at the most inopportune moments. He leaves the reader, and his family, wondering what he might get into next. “I thought how great it would be if we could trade in Fudge for a nice cocker spaniel.” – Peter.

This book was my absolute favorite when I was growing up! I read it multiple times. I loved the turtle in the bowl and the fact they lived in an apartment building with an elevator. What a cool story.

Even reading it as an adult with my son, I enjoyed the story. I find certain scenes to be humorous.
Thanks for stopping in.

I never got into the Judy Blume books. Sounds like I should have when my kids were young.
Maybe the grandmunchkins.

I really enjoyed reading her as a child and now as an adult with my children. There is some humour in Fudge that makes me think of my own boys and the adventures they get into. I think you and your grandchildren would enjoy the read.

There is a new movie apparently from one of Judy Blume’s books, “Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret.” I would like to see it, it was one of my favourite books growing up.
