I have not read book one or two in this series, but I was able to follow the storyline. I was outside my reading zone with this one. I was searching for books that started with the letter Q and stumbled on Queen and the Kingsmen. I noted some of the reviews refer to it as dark romance. I refer to it as erotic. But neither category aren’t ones I am familiar with.
The following review was originally posted on Goodreads: September 2022.
The beautiful face on the cover, a contrast of light and dark, drew me in. Then I saw the words Dark Fairytale in the description and decided to give Queen and the Kingsmen a read. I didn’t pay attention to the erotica warning; I actually didn’t read it all. So, it shocked me when I got a few chapters in. So, where does that leave me for a review?
I think that readers of this genre would enjoy the read. There is character growth. The main character is an interesting woman. She surprised me, as the reader, as much as she surprised herself.
I didn’t give a star rating because I have no basis for comparison and I’m not sure how to star it fairly. As much as it shocked me when I stumbled into the erotic sections of the story, I thought Queen and the Kingsmen was well written, had an interesting storyline, and gripping characters. I enjoyed the fairytale elements of the story.

Yeah, I took a look at the blurb: it’s dark romance because of the “break my curse by breaking me” part, as it’s labelled as “reverse harem” it’s definitely erotica. Going by your review, Steffanie Holmes’ Manderley Academy trilogy (this year’s M on my blog) is a comp title (for dark romance & reverse harem), and her Briarwood Witches (last year’s B) is a comp title for dark fairy tales & reverse harem. I think if you’re looking for a Grimm-esque dark fairytale, you should look at Holly Black — and of course, me 🙂
