Reflecting on coffee

It’s October so I thought I would reflect on coffee. My first coffee post was October 3, 2016. I didn’t really share any news about my week, but I did narrate a wonderful coffee setting for us. I visited the coffee share once a month back then. Honey and coffee seemed to be something that I talked about a lot.

My Weekend Coffee Share feature image has changed a few times over the years:

For a time before I had my own feature image, I would use the Hosts image. Those feature images looked like this:

If we were having coffee, I would share a couple of things that happened this week that fit with that whole idea of reflection. So, the ignitor went in the gas oven and the place we bought the oven doesn’t carry the part. Long story short dinners have been cooked on the stovetop for a few nights. Well, on Wednesday night the boys asked what we were having and my creative ideas for stovetop meals is done so I said chicken noodle soup. The response was equivalent to me offering them flaming bags of crap. Unhappy with my dinner choice, the 12-year-old cooked himself a grilled cheese and the 9-year-old made himself a Mr. Noodles and then they both cleaned up their own mess. Then there is me standing there wondering what just happened and where did the time go, my little babies aren’t babies!

This segways into the fact that I am going to be getting my own designated writing space. Some of you may recall that I do most of my writing at my dining room table, which typically works fine. I can block the kids, dog, and my husband out knowing that my Mom Sense kicks in if something is wrong. However, I was trying to write at the table and my husband came inside with a buddy. They made a coffee and sat at the same table as me. I couldn’t block them out, and when I thought I had managed it they would pull me back into the conversation. Anyway, the boys no longer need a playroom, so we are cleaning that space out, moving our exercise stuff in, and then I get the nook where all the exercise stuff was in. It’s going to be great. I have started renovating an old table to use as my desk. I am going to do it to match this table that I did a couple of years ago, see the image below. I will share office space pictures once I get that table done and the space set up.

If we were having coffee, we were having coffee I would also share that my title reveal for Book 2 of The Ember Files was this week. I apologize because I didn’t do a blog post about it. The link to my Instagram share is here. The cover reveal will be later in October, and I will create a post for that.

Okay, virtual coffee friends let me pass you the coffee pot.

  1. That is wonderful that you are creating a great writing space for yourself! I am dearly missing a private space to read and write myself. Recently I’ve actually started to look at houses with a different floor plan, to better be able top create some privacy. We’ll see, the future will tell what’s going to happen. Thank you for the coffee!

    1. Yes, I think it will be nice. I doubt that I will be able to hide from the boys for longer than half a second, but it will take more work for them to come to ask me where their hats are when they’re on their heads! Haha.

Thanks for stopping in, Maria. I hope your week is going well.

  2. I remember each one of those coffee share banners…
A few years ago, when we just moved into our “new” house on Cape Cod and were cooking with just a microwave and Colman stove, we had my mother-in-law, 10 year old nephew and 13 year old niece down to visit. After the first day, he cooked bacon eggs every morning and grilled cheese at lunch every day. lol, I guess boys that age do cook these days. Of course part of the appeal for him was using the Colman stove.
I’m glad you are setting up your own little wring space. No matter how well you can block it, having a quiet corner is a necessity!
Hope your weekend is going well and that you have a great week ahead!

    1. I like them cooking even more when they cook dinner for me and clean up after, hahaha. Nachos are a regular thing for my older boy to cook. The younger one likes to do grilled cheese or pancakes and bacon.
I will share about the writing space as it starts to come together.
      Have a great week, Trent.

  3. Oh Shari, a warning for your boy’s mom. They just keep growing and turning into independent adults – which feels both wonderful & distressing to tear your emotions into pieces.
Like a blessing that leaves bruises.
You’ll do fine, but hang on tight. It can be one rough ride.

    1. It really is so bittersweet. I’m so proud and excited to see them grow and succeed, but where are my babies? My virtual coffee posts might turn into a parenting support group, haha. Thanks, Gary. Have a great week.
