Coffee Blog

To sip or to wait—that is the question.

The steam streams up from the deep brown java in my mug. I watch with thoughts of the pleasure that the first sip will create. But I note the heat and wonder, do I wait or sip now? I know the level of heat rising from my coffee will scald my lips and tongue, then burn its way down my throat. How can someone enjoy their first sip under those circumstances? The enjoyment is still there in the bitter notes that carry the energy of the morning and of waking. Waiting for a few minutes will allow that first sip to go slowly and the coffee’s flavour can be savoured and not rushed. During that wait, I can watch the dancing pillars of coffee steam, enjoy deep inhales of the coffee fragrance, and dream of the joy in that first sip.

Good morning virtual coffee friends!

If we were having coffee, I would share with you that my family and I started another new board game. It is called Frustration Rummy. It is a great new addition to our game menu. For those of you who play traditional Rummy, this game is not the same. There are some similarities I think, but certainly, there are differences.

If we were having coffee, I would share the link to my 99-word participation post. The prompt put out by Carrots Literary Ranch Community is Balloons on a Bumper. I think it is a cute prompt. I, of course, gave it my fantasy twist. You can check it out, here.

Announcement! If we were having coffee, I would share with you that later in the week I am posting up an Author Interview. It is questions answered by a Canadian Indie author from New Brunswick. I won’t say any more on that right now . . .

If we were having coffee, I would share with you my pleasure in the weather. This first half of September has had lovely temperatures and lots of sunshine. I have been trying to take advantage of it with fall walks, backyard soccer, and sitting on the front porch with a coffee and a good book. Speaking of books, I have been working my way through book titles that represent the letters of the alphabet. I am planning ahead for the A-to-Z blog challenge in 2023 because I would like to do book reviews.

If we were having coffee, I would pass you the coffee pot and ask about your week.

  1. Hi Shari,
In the heat of making the same decision between buying my mouth or waiting – I wait. If I can find an ice cube nearby. I ho for it. Lacking that I ask for a big spoon which I use to slowly stir my drink while the cold spoon sucks away a bit of heat, then I pull it out to let it air-cool before repeating the move.
After a few cycles, I taste the liquid on the spoon. But I’m actually gaging the temperature of my drink which I know will be a bit lower than my steaming beverage. Then I repeat or continue as informed by my spoon until the drink is my perfect temperature of around 140 F. ☕️ 🍵
    Ahhhhhhhh

      1. Well, yes, I think, but more important it gives me something to do, something simple to focus on while waiting for physics to work its magic and make my drink drinkable. Because, early mornings while still half asleep, I could easily disappear into my thoughts and appear to the outside world as a near comatose and distant elder. Demonstrating my command and control of that spoon is evidence that I’m at least partially aware of the outside world.

  2. I love your A-Z Blog Challenge idea! I hope you do it – I’ll definitely follow along if you do.

Last year I’d planned to do A-Z of AZ, with a post on a different Arizona place each day. Then I decided I needed to work on my dang novel instead. Not sure what I’ll do for 2023.

    1. I’m hoping I gave myself enough time to get through the letters. Fingers crossed.

A to Z Arizona posts sound fun. If that doesn’t work, like me and my reviews, we still have time to switch themes. Lots of luck, Janet. I hope you participate, it is so much fun.
Thanks for stopping in. Have a great rest of your week.
