Straight Shot – Coffee Blog

Every part of me feels heavy, saddled with an aching tiredness. That rich aroma from my full-bodied coffee screams at me, but it feels as if I am moving through water in my attempt to navigate the battle field of my kitchen. It seems I will never reach the steaming mug on my Keurig. As I sloth forward I envision sweeping the mug away and ramming my head under the Keurig so I can skip the part where I have to bring the mug to my lips and actively drink the liquid. A straight shot from the Keurig down my throat seems more efficient. Lost in that dream I am suddenly shocked to find the mug in my hand and the scalding fluid flowing freely into my system, and then there is the bottom of my mug. I find it hard not to turn the mug over and around to find the hole that my coffee escaped out. I mean, where did it go? Surely there is a crack or something in this mug!

That is basically a summary of where I am at (Excuse me while I stifle a yawn). Okay, moving on. The half marathon training is going well. I have new shoes, blister free socks, and I am experimenting with energy snacks while I run. I ran 12.2 miles on Monday in 2 hours and 25 minutes. Not bad since I am sick and occasionally had to detour off the track to blow my nose. I hope to do a practice run of the full 13.1 miles later in the month. Interestingly I find that the running, the just getting out there, and the pushing through helps to shove the tiredness away.

Not much else to share. I am starting to think about my A to Z topic for April. It is hard to believe that January zipped past already! Anyway, how about you? What has been going on?

  1. I cannot even imagine running 1 mile let along 12.2 miles. When I was in rehab for my knee replacement, my therapist asked me how far I ran. I just laughed and said I don’t run. Good for you!

    1. I remember a few years ago when I started running I couldn’t run the distance between to subdivision driveways, and even now I am not fast I just putt along. I love walking to which I find is a lot more kind to my knees.

  2. I remember being able to run. I loved it. Wish I could still do it, but walking is the best I can do these days. Lucky just to do that much. I’m with you on skipping the mug and just letting the kuerig feed you.

  3. I really enjoyed reading your post. You have a wonderful way with words and I could see myself writing about bypassing the mug too. I have longed for intravenous coffee in the past. I used to get infusions of immunoglobulin every 3 weeks and I thought they could just add a bag of coffee to that. That said, I have had intravenous prednisone and that really woke me up and I was full of beans.
I’m impressed with your running efforts. I’m not a runner but I do take our dogs out for a walk. Our pups are 6 year old Border collie x kelpies so are working dogs. They’re pretty calm at home but putting the lead on seems to turn them into rockets. I’m working on that. Our older dog, Lady, is great on the lead just prancing along.
Hope you have a great week!

    1. Thank you for the kind words!

I have joked a few times about an intravenous coffee drip. Some days it just sounds good and feels so necessary, haha.

I love walking the dogs, but we are way too cold here for that right now. However, I can relate to the energy levels that boost up when the leash comes out. My old dog walks well, but we are working on the loose leash walking with the puppy.

Have a great week, thanks for stopping by.

      1. The loose leash walking is on the agenda here too. I can take them of the leash at the beach, which gives them a great run but doesn’t teach them to walk on the leash so I need to persevere.
Hope you have a great week too!

    1. I have always wanted to try, so I figure a ½ marathon is a good place to start. Just like anything else sometimes it feels a bit more challenging than others.

Thank you for hosting the coffee share, it is one of my favourite groups to participate in!
